Turkish Airlines, which flies to the most countries in the world, has resumed its flights from Istanbul to Aleppo in Syria, which were suspended in 2012. This marks Syria as the second destination, after the airline resumed its flights to Damascus in January this year.

Aleppo: Gateway to Syria
Turkish Airlines flights to Aleppo International Airport (ALP) resumed on Aug. 1, 2025, operating three days per week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The city is famous for its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as its rich history and culture. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, and as a stop on the Silk Road, it has held traditional bazaars for many centuries. Turkish Airlines suspended the route more than a decade ago due to the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War.
From Aug. 19, flights will operate between Istanbul Airport (IST) and Aleppo International Airport (ALP) five times per week; after Sept. 1, the frequency of flights will increase to daily between the two cities. The schedule for flights beginning Aug. 1 is as follows:
- TK 844: IST (08:10) – ALP (10:10)
- TK 855: ALP (12:10) – IST (14:15)
The times above are given in local time.

Connecting Istanbul and Aleppo
Commenting on the new schedule which will connect the two cities, Mahmut Yayla, Senior Vice President of Sales (Region II) for Turkish Airlines, said the following:
“Aleppo is one of the most important cities in the region with its historical and cultural richness. With the reopening of our Aleppo route, we aim to strengthen economic and social ties between the two countries. As Turkish Airlines, we continue to increase our flight connections while offering our guests more travel options.”
It is hoped that the increased connectivity will rebuild some of the economic ties that were severed during the Syrian Civil War. Turkish Airlines customers wishing to travel on this route can purchase tickets on the Turkish Airlines website, with prices starting at 299 USD (£225 approx.) Travellers wishing to know more can check out the website, call the airline’s customer service number or visit an authorised sales office.
