Since Greece announced they might let tourists in mid-May if the coronavirus outbreak has subsided enough, Ryanair has decided to capitalize on the opportunity.

England to Greece

Greece is set to welcome visitors back from May the 14th if they have a negative COVID-19 test and if the pandemic eases up a little. It was initially discussed that the IATA developed the COVID passport, maybe the only safe passageway for those looking to travel in 2021. However, this may now not be the case.

Ryanair and their mission to Greece

Ryanair has increased flights from London Southend airport to Greece to meet the demand they expect to receive from tourist bookings. The flights will start from May, meaning the airport has to be ready in the same month. This almost coincides with the UK’s plan to restart international travel on May the 17th. However, this is all dependant on the state of the pandemic by the time the date arrives.

Many have had to reschedule their holidays, so it’s good news to travelers who want to look forward to a summer holiday outside the UK. It’s right before the school holidays are set to begin, so it may be a huge relief for families looking to get away during the summer months. However, this is all dependant on whether coronavirus cases ease up and if the UK reopens its borders internationally.

The Digital Passport

It seems like IATA’s Digital Travel Pass will be extremely useful during these times to keep track of those flowing in and out of countries. Spain has even said they may start considering holidays based on the vaccine passport concept. This may include a mix of negative tests and digital COVID passports.

The flights will fly from Southend to Corfu – Greece’s tourist destination – so the country may be the place to be for Brits this summer. Would you go to Greece during the summer? Let us know below!
