The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and Boeing have held discussions to bolster Rwanda’s aviation industry. The goal is for the company to assist the country in becoming a hub for tourism, regional air transport and logistics.

Aviation Sector in Rwanda
Currently, Rwanda is dedicating a lot of effort to boosting its aviation sector. Although relatively small in contrast to other countries, the nation is the sole owner of RwandAir, Africa’s fastest-growing airline. The airline operates with a mid-sized but modern fleet, consisting of 14 aircraft; it also flies to several destinations within Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Rwanda employs 2,900 people in the aviation sector and generates almost $9 million annually, which is 0.1% of the country’s GDP.
If combining aviation-related tourism, employment numbers are raised to 42,000. The joining of several related sectors, supply chain, employee spending, and tourism activities, accounts for 160 million dollars in economic activity.

Rwanda and Boeing’s Partnership
The RDB and a Boeing delegation have met to discuss logistics, aviation and future opportunities for Rwanda’s industry. Rwanda and Boeing have discussed a partnership to make the country a regional air transport hub and grow both the aviation and tourism industries.
On a social media statement, the RDB stated:
“The engagement also explored developments in aircraft financing, cargo operations, export market connectivity, and opportunities to further position Rwanda as a regional aviation and tourism hub.”
Overall, the partnership aims to strengthen all aspects of Rwanda’s aviation sector, from manufacturing to route development. So far, Boeing has not commented on the partnership.
