In a bold move for the aviation industry, Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY Airlines has announced a new partnership with Europe’s leading low-budget airline easyJet aimed at expanding the scope of its PLAY connect platform. The collaboration, powered by Icelandic tech firm Dohop’s innovative interlining technology, seeks to reshape how travellers book flights by adding more than 350 new city pairs to PLAY’s network.

Easier flights for passengers

By incorporating easyJet into the PLAY Connect Platform, customers can now book connecting flights more conveniently, allowing them access to a broader range of destinations.

Dawn Hardwick, easyJet’s Global Lead for strategic Airline Partnerships and connectivity, revealed her enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasising the fact that it will give PLAY airlines’ passengers access to easyJet’s routes at leading European airports:

“With our strong presence at Europe’s leading airports, we are now able to offer connecting passengers on PLAY Airlines greater access to our route network connecting Europe’s primary airports with great value fares and friendly service”.

Unlike conventional interline agreements, alternative interlining allows airlines to collaborate without complicated procedures, allowing PLAY to expand its network and provide smooth travel experiences.

In addition, the new e-commerce platform which offers more than 20,000 high street, luxury and premium brands will integrate into PLAY’s post-booking process enabling the airline to generate revenue from its customers’ purchases. The agreement builds on InterLnkd’s recent achievements securing one million in seed funding and establishing strategic partnerships with major travel brands including Wizz Air and Thomas Cook.

Head of Distribution at PLAY Airlines, Tatiana Shiroko said:

‘This partnership is not just about expanding our network; it’s about transforming the way our customers travel. By bringing easyJet into PLAY Connect, we can provide an extensive range of destinations while ensuring a seamless and cost-effective travel experience.”

A Promising Future for Global Connectivity

In other news, the carrier also plans to further expand PLAY Connect by bringing partnerships with airlines from the U.S., Canada, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. This strategic growth will position the carrier as the main hub for travellers seeking affordable international exploration while strengthening Iceland’s tourism and status as a global travel destination.  The alliance between PLAY and easyJet signifies a promising future for travellers seeking affordable and innovative travel options and beyond.
