With several potential allegations, Linhas Aereas de Mocambique (LAM Mozambique) in Maputo, South Africa, is being investigated for five different violations. From potential misuses of funds to corruption within the company, LAM face varying charges as the ongoing investigations progress.

Several investigations ensue

Whilst facing investigations into many inconsistent payments across a variety of staff and aircraft related platforms within the company, LAM Mozambique also looks at potential issues surrounding contracts in their plight for restructuring.

This takes form in the form of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which places legal exchanges between Fly Modern Ark (FMA) and IGEPE, the Institute for Management of State Holdings, hoping to reshape LAM through joint coalition.

Another investigation LAM Airlines is undergoing falls under potential legality issues with a B737-300(F). Due to documents being unaccounted for, the aircraft has been unable to operate and caused monetary losses for LAM Mozambique. Ticketing issues and funds being mismanaged are also being investigated.

Johnam describes recovery for the company as identifying those who may have been operating these abuses on an individual basis, hoping to uphold the company’s image and financial reputation.

Funds put into reconstruction

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) describe wanting to improve LAM’s organisation and delegation of funds in a report in February 2026. As of November 2025, many of the airline’s shares have been transported into several different companies, part of a million-dollar investment into the restructuring of LAM in attempts to reshape and grow the company. These form many of the new developments in South African airlines.

The restoration of LAM continues as the many investigations bring forth new outcomes.

Will these investigations lead to real jail time, or is this just another ‘paper probe’ to satisfy the IMF? What’s your take on it! Let us know in the comment section.
