Oman Airports achieves major global milestone by becoming the first airport operator in the world to deploy Wi-Fi 7 technology across it’s facilities, partnering with Chinese Technology Company Huawei.

Developments to Oman’s Connectivity

The new Wi-Fi 7 technology will provide travellers with:

  • Up to 46 Gbps speeds (5x faster than previously used Wi-Fi 6E).
  • Enhanced Security Protocols to safeguard personal and operational data.
  • Seamless reliability, even at peak travel hours.

These improvements are a part of Oman Airports’ strategies to modernise their services and improve the passenger experience. Preparing for the future of travel through the integration of new technologies that will advance and improve Oman’s aviation, tourism and transport industries.

 New Benchmark for Muscat International Airport

Muscat International Airport welcomes more than 40,000 passengers daily, and will be the first to experience this new partnership at work. Terminal areas, check-in counters, departure halls and dining spaces will offer this seamless, high-speed connectivity — ensuring travellers remain connected during their journeys.

Strategic Partnership with Huawei

Huawei will play a pivotal role in enabling the transformation of Oman’s connectivity. With the company emphasising the importance of the partnership and the role it will play in enhancing the passengers experience and improve operations in line with the Oman Vision 2040.

David Xu, CEO of Huawei Oman, stated:

Ahmed Al Amri, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, highlighted the significance of the partnership:

“Our collaboration with Huawei marks a pivotal moment in Oman Airports’ digital transformation. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to implementing cutting-edge technologies that simultaneously elevate passenger experience and optimize operational efficiency.”

Basim Al Lawati, Vice President of ICT Infrastructure & Security at Oman Airports added:

“Huawei brings not only advanced ICT but also a long-term digital development plan. This partnership has already led to a significant increase in passenger satisfaction and a major uplift in our security and operational capabilities. We are leveraging data and AI to make our operations ‘visible, manageable, and controllable,’ directly contributing to the goals of Oman Vision 2040.”

The partnership sets a new global precedent in the connectivity in the aviation industry> Strengthening the position of Oman whilst ensuring improvements to the country’s infrastructure to prepare for the future demands of air travel.
