On March 15, Lufthansa operated a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from Frankfurt (FRA) to Toronto (YYZ), marking the introduction of its newly certified Allegris Business Class seats. These seats represent Lufthansa’s latest Business Class design, offering enhanced privacy, adjustable sleeping surfaces, and customisable seating layouts compared with the airline’s previous Business Class. Certification for the new cabin had been granted on Feb. 24, 2026.

Expanding destinations of the Dreamliner fleet

Lufthansa’s winter schedule currently sees the Dreamliner flying from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to destinations including Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Austin (AUS), Mumbai (BOM), Toronto (YYZ), and Bogotá (BOG).

With the summer schedule launching on March 29, Lufthansa will expand service to Cape Town (CPT), Shanghai (PVG), and Hong Kong (HKG). From June onwards, Los Angeles (LAX) and New York JFK (JFK) will be added, followed by New Delhi (DEL) in July, highlighting the airline’s broader strategy to standardise its long-haul offering.

Upgraded Allegris Business Class

The aircraft features 25 certified Allegris Business Class seats. Passengers can choose from different seat types within the cabin, including the standard Business Class “Classic Seat”, premium Business Class Suites, window Privacy Seats, and Extra Long Beds with a 2.20-meter reclining surface. While the Classic Seat is included with a Business Class fare, other upgraded seat types require an additional fee.

Although Lufthansa has not published fixed global pricing, industry reports suggest these upgrades could range from roughly €100 to €600, depending on route length and demand, reflecting a growing trend toward unbundled premium experiences.

The introduction of Allegris is part of Lufthansa’s effort to remain competitive with rival carriers offering increasingly personalised premium cabins. By monetising seat selection within the Business Class, the airline is responding to both rising customer expectations and pressure to boost ancillary revenue, which represents additional income from services beyond the base ticket.
