22 Diversions In a Single Day

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has been operating DEL, India’s busiest airport, which handles more than 1,300 movements daily.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi, the national capital of India, as the metropolitan city witnessed dust storms and heavy rains.

Torrential rains with the thunderstorms severely impacted the flight operations, with 22 arriving flights diverted to the neighbouring airports.

Many arrival and departure flights have been delayed since 7 p.m. local time, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, according to the airport’s website.

Affected Flights

According to AirNav Radar, an Air India (AI) aircraft from Mumbai to Delhi (AI 2440) was diverted to Udaipur, and another AI flight from Nagpur (AI 466) and Goa (AI 488) was diverted to Lucknow and Amritsar, respectively.

Air India released a travel advisory. It stated that:

“Heavy rain and thunderstorms may affect flight operations to/from Delhi this evening.”

In addition to Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet operations in Delhi have also been affected due to the rainy conditions. Passengers travelling to and from Delhi have been advised to check their flight status on their respective airlines’ website.
