This week started off brilliantly for Korean Air, as they have been named “2025 Airline of the Year” by AirlineRatings. The award acts as recognition for the airline’s commitment to passenger comfort, safety and overall operational excellence. For Korean Air, this also marks a major milestone. The airline overtakes Qatar Airways and upgrades on their second place last year to claim the top spot.

Why Korean Air Won

AirlineRatings ranks over 350 airlines when evaluating the best one. When deciding these rankings they consider a variety of factors. This includes, safety ratings, passenger reviews, service innovation and fleet modernisation. CEO of AirlineRatings, Sharon Peterson, explained:

These awards are not a popularity contest. We conduct a meticulous assessment to highlight the best airlines for quality, value, and safety.

Out of all the airlines that were ranked, Korean Air stood out for their investment in next-generation aircraft, their spacious economy class, and the successful merge with Asiana Airlines.

Unmatched Passenger Comfort

Whilst many other airlines are prioritising reducing seat space and maximising profit, Korean air continues to put comfort first. The airline maintains a 33-34 inch seat pitch, higher quality meal portions, and little touches of care. Namely, offering commodities like slippers on long-haul flights.

Korean Air has chosen not to follow the trend of reducing space in economy class, ensuring a more comfortable experience for passengers,” Petersen noted.

Beyond this, Korean Air were commended for their investment in more advanced aircrafts. In particular, the Boeing B787-10 and Airbus A350-900, played a key role in the airline’s success. Additionally, it is clear that merging with Asiana Airlines boosted Korean Air’s position. Both the airline’s global presence and operational efficiency was admired by Peterson. She said:

This merger highlights the airline’s financial stability and strategic vision.

A Bright Future

For Korean Air, the award is the cherry on the cake for its progression as an airline in recent years. The focus on passenger satisfaction, fleet modernisation and innovation in all sectors has solidified its position as an industry leader.

As Peterson concluded:

Korean Air’s commitment to excellence has earned them the top spot. We look forward to seeing them continue to lead the industry.

So with that being said, travellers seeking world-class service, Korean Air is the airline to fly with in 2025 and beyond.
