The Northern Super League (NSL) has announced WestJet as the sponsor of Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league. This partnership is WestJet’s debut sponsorship of a professional sports league, but they are excited to contribute to empowering women through sports and inspiring future leaders of the game.

Previously, WestJet has championed women in sports through their ‘Caring for Our Community’ and ‘Airport Community Giving’ programmes.

Jeff Hagen, Vice-President of Commercial Development & Strategic Partnerships at WestJet, said:

“Becoming the Official Airline of the Northern Super League takes this commitment to new heights. This partnership represents more than just travel—it’s an investment in the future of women’s sports in Canada. We’re proud to connect fans and players to the game while contributing to the league’s success.”

Details of the partnership

As part of the agreement, WestJet will be providing transportation for all six NSL clubs. This means they will be transporting clubs between Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.

The agreement underscores WestJet’s commitment to allowing the league’s long-term growth. Meanwhile, it will provide an enhanced athlete experience through team-booking policies that support flexibility for athletes travelling with their families.

The deal also increases the airline’s exposure, with WestJet branding featured in stadiums and social contesting for fans attending games in person.

Christina Litz, President of the Northern Super League, said:

“WestJet’s investment in our league is a testament to their belief in the power of sports to inspire and unite. Their support ensures that we can bring world-class women’s soccer to fans across Canada while creating a sustainable future for the league.”

The NSL believe the airline will also play a critical role in connecting fans and communities nationwide.

About the two parties

For sports fans, the first Northern Super League fixtures will take place in April 2025.

There will be six founding clubs: Halifax Tides FC, Montreal Roses FC, Ottawa Rapids FC, AFC Toronto, Calgary Wild FC, and Vancouver Rise FC.

Meanwhile, WestJet has been operating since 1996, pioneering low-cost travel across Canada. Following its merge with Sunwing, the airline’s more than 14,000 employees and nearly 200 aircraft connect travellers to over 100 destinations across the globe.
