From March 29th, 2022, British Airways will resume flights from London to Sydney, almost two years after stopping the original service due to COVID. Meanwhile, they are suspending their London to Singapore flights until October.
London-Sydney service returns
The flights BA15/BA16 are set to run five times a week from London Heathrow to Sydney via Singapore’s Changi Airport, with the first plane touching down in Sydney at 6:10 am on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022. This will increase to a daily service from April 1 until September 29, after which it will drop down to 6x a week until January 1 2023. All this comes almost two years after British Airways suspended their London-Syndey service in April 2020 due to pandemic concerns and the national lockdowns imposed in the UK and Australia. The reopened route will operate with Boeing B787-9 Dreamliners instead of the B777s that were used before the pandemic.
Singapore route suspended until October.
At the same time as reopening the London to Sydney route, British Airways have also announced that they will be suspending their London-Singapore service. The BA11/BA12 service will be off schedule from 29 March 2022 until 31 October 2022. A spokesperson from BA has said the decision to suspend the route was due to reduced demand and the ongoing uncertainty of COVID-19.
Singapore has stringent COVID measures for passengers, even ones from their designated “Vaccinated Travel Lane” countries. It may be possible for passengers to fly only a single leg of the BA15 and BA16 routes, travelling London-Singapore or Syndey-Singapore, respectively, but this will depend on whether the state deems these as “Vaccinated Travel Lane Services”.
