An Airbus A319-100 operated by Delta Airlines received an indication that a fire was in the left engine. The flight was in the climb out of Detroit when the crew received the warning. The crew stopped the climb at FL120 (12000ft) and shut down the left CFM56 engine. The flight crew received word from inside the cabin that there was no fire, but they returned to Detroit as a precaution.

The A319 landed safely and exited the runway where emergency crews met the aircraft to confirm that there was no fire present. A replacement A319 took the passengers to their destination of New York La Guardia.
