Emirates Skywards members can now use their loyalty miles to book train tickets across Europe after the airline launched a new rail booking platform covering more than 12,000 destinations. The new Skywards Rail service allows members to redeem miles on routes operated by more than 40 rail companies across 12 European countries, expanding the airline’s loyalty programme beyond air travel.

Use miles on rail journeys

Members can book tickets through the dedicated Skywards Rail platform, choosing to pay entirely with Skywards miles or using a combination of miles and cash. Rail tickets can also be purchased for family and friends, with e-tickets delivered directly by mail.

The platform provides access to domestic, international and high-speed rail services operated by companies including Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, Trenitalia, Renefe and OBB, as well as UK operators such as Heathrow and Gatwick Express, Thameslink and ScotRail.

Journeys cost varying amounts of miles with Berlin to Frankfurt costing 4,100 miles and Rome to Milan costing 8,100 miles.

Expanding Skywards beyond flying

Dr Nejib Ben Khedher, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates Skywards, said the new service gives members greater flexibility when using their miles.

“Our members are looking for more flexible ways to use their Skywards Miles, and Skywards Rail is another step in expanding the programme beyond air travel.”

He added that the new platform gives members the freedom to connect onwards from Emirates or flydubai flights, travel between major European cities or explore new destinations using their miles.

The launch marks another expansion of the Emirates Skywards loyalty programme which now has more than 39 million members across 190 countries.
