The Dubai based airline, Emirates is about to launch double daily flights to Oman’s capital, Muscat, with the world’s largest commercial airliner, the Airbus A380.

They’re planning for flights to be starting from 1st July 2019.

The distance between the two cities is just 211 miles (340 kilometers). Did you know, that is shorter than the length of all the wiring in the A380, which would stretch over 500 kilometers if laid out end to end.

These new flight will break Emirates’ previous record. They used to fly between Dubai and Doha with an A380 – a distance of 235 miles (379 kilometers) – but after the political crisis between UAE and Qatar, flights have been suspended between these two countries for the foreseeable future.

According to Emirates officials, the twice daily A380 services will replace EK 862/863 and EK 864/865. Emirates morning flight, EK 862, will depart Dubai at 08:25hrs, arriving in Muscat at 09:40hrs. The return flight, EK 863, will depart Muscat at 11:15hrs, arriving in Dubai in the afternoon at 1225hrs. Emirates` late afternoon flight EK 864 will depart Dubai at 16:10hrs and will arrive in Muscat at 17:25hrs. EK 865 will depart Muscat at 19:05hrs, arriving in Dubai at 20:15hrs.

Even though the scheduled flight time to between Muscat and Dubai is around 1 hour 10 minutes, actual average flight time is around 45 minutes, depending on weather of course!

Both A380s flying to Muscat will be operated in a three-class configuration, with 429 seats in Economy Class on the lower deck, as well as 76 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 14 First Class Private Suites on the upper deck.

The A380’s use a very large amount of fuel and could this be Emirates way of trying to make a more efficient fleet? Using their more fuel efficient planes on the longer haul flights?

What do you think of Emirates using the A380 for Short Haul flights? Is it effective? Let us know in the comments below!
