Eindhoven Airport has introduced a ban on business aircraft starting Jan. 1, 2026, after announcing this plan in November 2023. Due to this, several aircraft have been reallocated in hopes of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise levels from air traffic by 30% in 2030.

A Little about Eindhoven Airport
Eindhoven Airport (EIN) is the Netherlands’ second-largest airport and is popular with budget carriers connecting to over 75 European destinations
This airport has one terminal with 12 gates and parking garages and owns a hotel, Tulip Inn Eindhoven Airport, which has 120 rooms, as it does not operate night flights.
They also share their runway, tower, and services with Eindhoven Air Base.

The Business Jet Ban
The airport set a goal to significantly reduce the CO₂ emissions and noise levels of air traffic in 2030 by 30% in order to combat climate issues.
Aircraft that have already been reallocated:
- A Global 5000, managed by FLYINGGROUP, is now based in Rotterdam.
- A Legacy 500, operated by ASL Group Private Jet Services, is now primarily active out of Amsterdam Schiphol.
- A Legacy 600, managed by JetNetherlands, part of the ASL Group, has also been stationed at Rotterdam.
In addition to the business aircraft ban, the airport introduced a cap of 41,500 flights, slightly above the initially planned limit of 40,500.

What Does This Mean for the Environment?
A ban on business aircraft would have symbolic and practical implications for our environment, as it would immediately reduce a highly disproportionate source of carbon emissions. It would also highlight climate inequality and encourage the use of alternative transport.
Total direct emissions from private aviation were an estimated 15.6 million tonnes of CO₂ in 2023, which would account for 2.5% of total CO2 emissions. Therefore, the direct effect on overall climate change would be limited unless accompanied by broader changes across the entire aviation sector and other high-emitting industries.
