An easyJet flight, EZY2715, which departed from Bristol (BRS) around 6 a.m. on Sept. 7 was given priority to land at Málaga (AGP) due to smoke found in the cabin on arrival. Both pilots had put on oxygen masks when they alerted Spanish air traffic control, Controladores Aéreos, to the issue.

Cabin smoke
The Airbus A320-214, was confirmed as easyJet‘s BRS-AGP service which is scheduled on its website to fly between 6 a.m. and 09:45 a.m.
Controladores Aéreos posted on social media platform, X, at 10:49 a.m. describing an “emergency situation due to smoke in the cabin”. FlightRadar24 flight tracking information was also shared. Whilst the post stated both pilots were wearing oxygen masks there is no mention as to whether passengers on board were also wearing masks as a precaution.
According to aviation safety information website SKYbrary, when smoke fills an aircraft cabin, it is treated as a serious emergency. The flight crew must immediately identify the source of smoke and take appropriate actions to stop it and prevent a fire.

Landed safely
Despite the issue, Tracking information from the AirNav Radar website confirms the flight landed on-time at 09:30 CEST, 2 hours and 13 minutes after departure.
Controladores Aéreos also stated the aircraft landed safely as well as an unnamed easyJet spokesperson who told the Express:
“Flight EZY2715 from Bristol to Malaga on 7 September requested an expedited landing due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely and was met by emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only. All passengers disembarked as normal. The safety of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”
Details around the cause of the smoke have not been shared but the aircraft was reported to have left the runway without incident shortly afterwards. No injuries were reported for the pilots or passengers.
On July 5, 2026 a similar incident occurred with a Cathay Pacific flight CX64 upon arrival at Hong Kong (HKG). The preliminary investigation determined that the smoke originated due to a mechanical glitch from an on-board air conditioning system that overheated during its arrival to HKG. As with the easyJet incident, no injuries or airport disruption occurred.
