Austrian Airlines has announced that it is launching seven new routes for the summer holiday period, as well as increased flights to the German North Sea island, Sylt, which originally launched in 2025.

The airline has now opened up seven new routes across Europe, which are expected to start between mid-May and mid-June. The new destinations now directly accessible from Austria’s hub in Vienna include:

  • Ponta Delgada (Azores, Portugal) (Tuesdays)
  • Alicante (Costa Blanca, Spain)  (Wednesdays/Sundays)
  • Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain) (Wednesdays/Sundays)
  • Corsica (France) (Tuesdays/Saturdays)
  • Ohrid (North Macedonia) (Wednesdays/Sundays)
  • Mytillini (Lesbos, Greece) (Mondays)
  • Bergen (Norway) (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays)

These routes, including the return flights, are expected to run twice weekly on opposing days. Customers are encouraged to check with the Austrian Airlines website directly for booking.

There will also be an increase in routine flights to Sylt, which will commence from May 13th, a full month earlier than 2025’s season. Austrian Airlines has dubbed their route to the German island as their best ‘coolcation’, alongside their new route to Bergen.

What else do we know?

The airline has announced these routes as part of Vienna’s holiday fair, which allows people to see what options they have for short and medium-haul getaways, and for airlines to see what their competitors are up to.

Alongside this, the airline has a strategy to market its ‘coolcation’ destinations, after a boom in holidaymakers choosing cooler alternatives rather than typical hotter climates.
