2 C-909 aircraft were wet-leased to VietJet Air by Chengdu Airlines recently to support their new flight route connecting the capital city, Hanoi, and Con Dao Island.

Wet leasing is a common practice in the aviation industry, where aircraft, complete crew, maintenance and insurance are all provided by the lessor.

This lease marks the introduction of Chinese-manufactured aircraft to the Vietnamese market, increasing the coverage and usage of C909 aircraft in the Southeast Asia region.

“ABC” balance: China-based aircraft manufacturer COMAC

As the trade wars continue, more attention is drawn to aircraft manufacturing as China announces a ban on new Boeing aircraft orders in the Chinese market. While concerns over the Chinese aviation market arise, COMAC, a Chinese-based manufacturer, gains more and more attention.

With the name showing the manufacturer’s ambitions to create a balance with mammoth aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing worldwide, COMAC produces regional commercial jets that are being used on more and more routes across the Asian region. Its flight distance is up to 3700 km. There are currently 146 C909 aircraft in commercial service as of April 2025.
