Cathay announced the opening of its largest office in the Chinese Mainland.

The opening event of the new IT office

Cathay celebrated its new Digital and IT office in Shenzhen, opening at Qianhai Kerry Centre on Jul 8. The ceremony was hosted by Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government Jiang Likun and Deputy Director General of the Qianhai Authority Wen Ping.

It could be seen as a strategic move by Cathay in Mainland China, followed by the establishment of Cathay’s Guangzhou IT office in 2024. recorded as a further development of the Group within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the region within Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

Function and vision of the Cathay Group

The new office spans over 25,000 square feet, equipped with Cathay’s first “Innovation Space” for supporting technological research, development and product showcases.

The major focus of the office will be global system development, quality assurance, and tech support. In particular, a tailored digital solution for the market in Mainland China.

By the end of 2025, the Group planned to expand the Digital and IT team in Mainland China to over 200 staff. It meant the company is aiming to double the team size compared to 2024.

Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said: “Digital transformation is crucial to Cathay’s future success. The new Shenzhen IT office will synergise with our Hong Kong headquarters and Guangzhou IT office, leveraging Qianhai’s position as a regional innovation hub to accelerate our digital development and expand our leading technological capabilities.”
