Malaysia-based regional carrier Berjaya Air (J8) received its first ATR72-600 on May 15, 2026, with ATR formally announcing the delivery on May 20. The aircraft is configured in an all-business-class layout and is powered by the Pratt & Whitney PW127XT-M engine.

Registered as 9M-BJA, the aircraft is the first in the world to be fitted with ATR‘s HighLine configuration, offering 26 seats in a 1-1 business class layout. The cabin was certified by both the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia earlier in May.

ATR’s CEO, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, said:

“This milestone demonstrates how the ATR family continues to evolve to meet new market expectations. Together with Berjaya Air, we are demonstrating the inherent versatility of the ATR platform, capable of adapting to a wide range of operator needs without compromising its core strengths.”

What Comes Next

The aircraft will initially operate on the Kuala Lumpur Subang (SZB) to Ko Samui (USM) route before expanding across Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, CEO of Berjaya Property Berhad, commented:

“Taking delivery of the world’s first ATR72-600 in ATR HighLine configuration marks an important step in Berjaya Air’s transformation journey. Whether serving resort destinations or charter operations across the region, the ATR HighLine cabin allows us to deliver an end-to-end premium travel experience that reflects Berjaya’s hospitality heritage and long-term vision.”

According to ch-aviation fleet data, Berjaya Air currently operates an ATR42-500, an ATR72-500, and a Global 5000 in its fleet and is scheduled for another delivery of the same aircraft later this year.
