Alaska Air Group, Inc. has disclosed plans for new nonstop services from Seattle to Tokyo, Japan through Hawaiian Airlines in 2025.
This development follows Alaska Air Group’s acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in September.
From 12 May 2025, daily nonstop flights from Seattle to Tokyo Narita International Airport will be available for travellers looking to visit Japan.
This will be followed by the introduction of nonstop services from Seattle to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, beginning in October 2025.
Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group commented:
“We believe our guests will be as excited as we are about these new nonstop flights to Tokyo and Seoul – two of the world’s most dynamic cities. From our global gateway in Seattle, we can conveniently connect travellers from across our network as they head to Asia and beyond.”
Alaska Air Group’s acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines
On 18 September, Alaska Air Group, Inc. closed a $1.9 billion deal for the acquisition of Hawaiian Holdings, Inc, establishing Honolulu as its second-largest hub, after Seattle.
Joining with Hawaiian Airlines enables Alaska Air Group to reach 141 destinations over 29 markets through the Oneworld Alliance.
Benefit to the Hawaiian Market
Alaska Air Group’s scheduled service expansion is also set to benefit the Hawaiian market as it aims to optimise passenger capacity between Hawai’i and Japan.
It plans to transfer the Honolulu-Tokyo Narita service to Seattle to accommodate more travel possibilities between Honolulu and Tokyo-Haneda.
As a result, the Hawai’i market will profit, having suffered from low travel demand since the pandemic.
Hawaiian Airlines will offer connections for travellers to Japan by utilising its Airbus A330-200s.
Explaining the choice of aircraft, Minicucci commented:
“[that the] spacious widebody aircraft, along with its excellent onboard service and amenities, will make for a terrific trip from one side of the Pacific Rim to the other.”
The Airbus A330-220 typically carries between 210 and 250 passengers, perfect for Alaska Air Group’s passengers and goals.
Weekly service will also double to fourteen flights.
Alaska Air Group has boosted the number of hours Hawaiian’s Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321 aircraft will fly daily, with the A321s seeing a 25% rise in use.
They hope the increase will create more flying time for Hawaiian’s crews.
