The Latvian carrier airBaltic is marking the 8th anniversary of its Pilot Academy, which has been training commercial pilots in Latvia. The training programme has produced more than 160 graduates who now operate across all levels within the airline, including First Officers and Captains. The academy currently trains 174 students from Latvia and across Europe.

airBaltic Pilot training programme supporting airline growth since 2018
Since its launch, the airBaltic Pilot Academy training programme has become a key source of talent for the airline. According to airBaltic, 164 graduates have joined the company, with several now progressing into instructor and command roles. Most recently, five graduates became Captains on the Airbus A220-300 fleet, marking a milestone for the academy’s development.
The programme aims to provide structured pilot training in Latvia’s aviation school pathways, allowing students to complete both theoretical and practical training within the region. Flight training takes place in Liepāja and Ventspils using Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft.

Strengthening the aviation training ecosystem in the Baltic region
airBaltic said the European commercial pilot training model has helped strengthen aviation training capacity in the Baltic region. The programme is supported by the airline’s training centre in Riga, where simulator and theoretical sessions are conducted.
The academy is part of a wider training ecosystem that has contributed to airBaltic achieving recognition as a Diamond Authorised Training Centre. The airline said this supports long-term development of its Airbus A220 pilot training and ensures a consistent supply of qualified pilots for future operations.
