airBaltic, the carrier from Latvia, announced its newest expansion of a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, bringing enhanced connectivity for travellers, as well as new destinations to its route network. This brings opportunities for both airlines to expand and consolidate their regional markets.

Expanded Codeshare Agreement, Enhanced Connectivity

The codeshare agreement between the two airlines started in 2023, when they operated flights between Istanbul and Riga jointly. As a market expansion strategy, the two airlines decide to push further their collaboration with this expanded codeshare, which would introduce more destinations for jointly operated flights.

Interim CEO and COO of airBaltic, Pauls Cālītis, is positive about what this collaboration can bring:

“We are glad to take the next step in our partnership with Turkish Airlines. This collaboration provides even more travel opportunities for Baltic passengers through Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network. At the same time, travellers from Türkiye can now enjoy greater access to airBaltic’s destinations across the Baltics and Northern Europe. We look forward to continuing this successful cooperation.”

New routes introduced with the expanded codeshare include flights from Istanbul to Tbilisi (TBS), Batumi (BUS), Ashgabat (ASB), Baku (GYD), Dushanbe (DYU), and Bishkek (FRU); also from Riga to Palanga (PLQ) in Lithuania, and Turku (TKU) and Tampere (TMP) in Finland.

Mr. Bilal Ekşi, the CEO of Turkish Airlines, is also positive about what this expanded collaboration would bring:

“We are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with airBaltic. This expanded codeshare agreement reflects our commitment to offering more travel options and improved connectivity for our passengers. As the airline flying to more countries than any other, we will continue bridging continents and cultures through strategic collaborations and a growing network.”

airBaltic: a Rapidly Expanding Carrier

This new expanded codeshare agreement between airBalric and Turkish Airlines allows both airlines to share destinations on their route network, and seize the opportunity to develop into regional markets.

airBaltic has shown rapid expansion in 2024, with record-breaking passenger numbers. With the offer of almost 100 destinations this summer, the carrier is hoping to bring enhanced connectivity between the Baltic and a wider region.
