Air Canada, the Air Canada Foundation, and Air Canada Cargo, in coordination with GlobalMedic, a Canadian humanitarian organisation, have delivered critical support to communities, evacuees, and firefighters affected by the wildfires in Northern Ontario. The wildfires started in early July 2026 and have lasted several weeks, although they have calmed down in recent days.

Air Canada’s partnership with GlobalMedic

Air Canada is supporting GlobalMedic’s overall wildfire response efforts by transporting its teams to communities across Northern Ontario. This support allows GlobalMedic personnel to help on the ground, including distributing specialised Fire Skid Units to rural and volunteer fire departments.

Through the Fire Skid Units, GlobalMedic transforms pickup trucks into rapid-response firefighting vehicles. This expands firefighters’ ability to respond effectively to wildfires.

Since it was founded in August 2023, GlobalMedic has distributed more than 700 Fire Skid Units across Canada. GlobalMedic provides additional support to departments actively battling fires in affected regions. The organisation is also helping evacuees through wellness checks, mobile clinic services, emergency snacks, and hygiene supplies. Throughout the recovery process, the organisation supports local food banks and recovery efforts in the coming months.

How Air Canada Supports Relief Efforts

The Air Canada Foundation has launched an employee fundraising campaign in support of GlobalMedic’s wildfire response efforts. This employee fundraising campaign is closely linked with the mission and values of Air Canada and the goal of improving local communities. This is as the fundraising campaign has provided the socio-economic basis for supporting wildfire relief efforts in Northern Ontario.

As wildfire activity spreads across the country, Air Canada, the Air Canada Foundation, and Air Canada Cargo work with humanitarian partners to support the evolving needs of the community.
