Airbus has selected Swiss cabin interiors specialist Bucher Group as a new supplier-furnished equipment (SFE) provider for the A320 family, expanding airlines’ options for customised galley and stowage solutions.

The agreement will see Bucher begin delivering bespoke galleys and stowage units for the A320 family later this year following three years of development on its latest G1B galley platform.

New galley designed with cockpit security in mind

A key part of Bucher’s new SFE offering is the G1B galley, engineered to comply with CS 25.795 safety standards for cockpit intrusion and penetration resistance. The design incorporates a reinforced structural barrier intended to withstand significant physical loads and forced entry attempts while using energy-absorbing technology to improve cockpit protection.

While the company has not disclosed details of the ballistic shield used within the galley, it says the system meets the highest applicable certification and safety requirements. The version displayed during the 2026 Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg was primarily developed for certification purposes before full production begins later this year.

More bespoke cabin options for Airbus customers

Bucher says its focus will remain on developing highly customised, out-of-catalogue galleys and stowage solutions tailored to individual airline branding and operational requirements. Project awards and cabin configurations will continue to be determined by Airbus, with lead times agreed jointly between the manufacturer and the supplier.

The company expects the first production units to enter service during 2026, marking the transition from development and certification into series production. The appointment strengthens Airbus’ supplier network while giving A320 operators additional flexibility when specifying cabin interiors for future aircraft deliveries.
