Gatwick Airport (LGW) welcomed the Jet2 flights on March 22. Jet2, the UK’s biggest package holiday company, has also been starting to operate a low-cost carrier from LGW.

Jet2 flights at Gatwick Airport
Jet2 has been using Airbus A321neo aircraft for its operations from London Gatwick Airport. The airline has been serving holiday destinations like the Balearics and Canary Islands in Spain, Faro in Portugal, Verona and Naples in Italy and 10 Greek destinations.
Passengers entering LGW from Gatwick Train Station will get a view of Jet2, as it has a prominent location in the airport. Though the airline has a familiar red livery and a prominent location, its aircraft are outnumbered by easyJet, which has a large number of aircraft based in LGW.
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2, said:
“Gatwick may be busy, but it also serves the largest catchment area in the UK. There are plenty of customers, and we believe they’ll be attracted to our product.”
Apart from easyJet, Jet2 also faces heavy competition from Britain’s second-biggest holiday company, Tui, and other airlines include British Airways’ Euroflyer subsidiary, Vueling, and Wizz Air.

Jet2 expects profit at LGW from 2029
Jet2 is very strong in the UK as a package holiday company for flights, but in the Mediterranean flight-only market, passengers often choose the cheapest deal.
The airline is costlier than its rival operators like easyJet, but Jet2 offers generous cabin baggage allowances, which could save around £30 for passengers compared with the airline’s budget rivals.
Heapy added that,
“Different airlines compete in different ways – like supermarkets at different price points. We differentiate ourselves through service.”
The holidaymaker is operating only six aircraft from LGW at the moment. With minimal aircraft and heavy competition, the airline told investors that the operations at LGW would move into profitability in 2029.
Out of those six aircraft, five are based locally and one overseas.
