Avianca Airlines, the national carrier of Colombia, has announced that they will be expanding their fleet to include two Airbus 330-900 widebody aircraft, which are set to operate on long-haul routes, expanding on its current medium- and long-haul operations.

Expansion of Avianca’s Fleet

These two aircraft are a part of a previous announcement from Abra Group, the air transportation company Avianca is a part of, to add seven Airbus A330 aircraft to their operations across the Americas. The announcement subsequently makes Avianca the only carrier in Colombia that will be operating the Airbus A330-900 model on its routes. It is adding to its current long-haul fleet of 15 widebody aircraft, and at present operates a fleet consisting of 140 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

“The incorporation of these Airbus A330-900 aircraft marks a key milestone in our long-haul growth roadmap,” says Gabriel Oliva, the President of Avianca Group.

The aircraft will have 377 seats, inclusive of the business class Americas experience, which offers additional comfort and convenience for passengers. The two jets will begin operating on routes across the Americas during the latter half of 2026.

Increasing Colombia’s Connectivity Across the Americas

Through this new development, Avianca is playing a role in the growth and expansion of the Colombian tourism industry. The new aircraft will be operating on routes that will contribute to the amplification of Colombia’s connectivity to the rest of the world, in order to strengthen and reinforce Abra Group’s presence in the region. The base of the two new aircraft is set to be in Colombia. The announcement exhibits the airline’s commitment to invest in the development of the country and its connectivity to the rest of the Americas.

“With these aircraft, we continue strengthening our investment and commitment to Colombia, while expanding connectivity between the Americas and the world, and reinforcing the Abra Group’s network and operational capabilities,” Oliva says.

Avianca has been operating in Colombia upwards of 105 years. In 2024, the airline had almost 38 million customers, and operated over 258000 flights. It operates over 150 routes, and over 700 flights daily. The airline is connected to over 80 destinations in over 25 countries across the Americas and Europe.
