Lufthansa Technik AG has received two Red Dot Design awards, widely regarded as a prestigious honour in the field of product and industrial design. One of the awards recognised the company’s Hidden Touch Display, which convinced the award jury in the Design Concept 2025 category. The company’s design concept for a non-electric floor path marking system for aircraft cabins won the Concept Sustainability category. The award ceremony is set to take place in Singapore, scheduled for October 2025.

Hidden Touch Display

The Hidden Touch Display is a technology that lets passengers in business jets, VIP aircraft and commercial first-class cabins operate a range of interior functions through an intuitive touch panel that disappears into various types of high-class interior surfaces when not in use. The device can be customised and integrated into different surfaces such as wood, metal or carbon fibre and more. The control interfaces can easily blend into the cabin design and appear only when needed.

The Hidden Touch Display addresses limitations of conventional screens and offers more flexibility in cabin design. Cabin designers are now given new degrees of freedom to explore during the design process.

GuideU CircularFit

According to Lufthansa Technik, the non-electrical GuideU CircularFit floor marking system is the first aviation cabin product specifically designed with circular economy principles in mind. While it maintains the patented photoluminescent technology found in existing GuideU lighting strips, the CircularFit model introduces a more sustainable approach. The company stated that it enables a 40% reduction in material costs and up to 90% less material usage, thanks to its fully reusable photoluminescent components and recyclable carrier parts. Dr. Janna Schumacher, chief human resources officer and executive board member at Lufthansa Technik AG, expressed appreciation for receiving the awards, particularly given the strong competition.
