On May 28th, when Korean budget airline Jeju Air flight 7C2217 was flying from Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) to Vietnam Danang International Airport (DAN), it left the runway while landing, causing a tire on the landing gear to fall off. All passengers and crew were uninjured. This caused a severe delay of the return flight. Multiple incidents with the same airline have contributed to a hefty fine and rising concerns about aviation safety when flying with the airline.

No Casualties from the Incident, Only Severe Delay

When flight 7C2217 was landing at Danang International Airport on the 28th, it went briefly off the runway into the buffer zones, and this caused a tire on the landing gear to be torn. Luckily, all 180 passengers on board and all crew members were safe.

Jeju Air, after offloading all passengers, replaced the tire locally. They then sent a replacement plane from Korea of the same model and used it for the return flight. This has caused a severe delay of almost 14 hours of the return flight 7C2218.

Jeju Air: What is happening?

Jeju Air has seen multiple incidents since the start of 2025. One of the deadliest plane crashes in Korean aviation history was recorded; a fire broke out in the cabin due to overheated battery banks, and now, the airline is facing a fine for repeated malfunctions and identified defects.

As one of the popular budget airlines in the region, the frequency of incidents sparks worry about the overall aviation safety in the region. The government’s act definitely brings attention to the airline’s maintenance problems, yet it is still uncertain whether this $576K fine will ensure more rigid aviation safety.
