Qantas are set to roll out ‘fake meat’ options for passengers on both flights and their corporate lounge.
The airline will be exploring partnerships with Australian company v2food and US-based Impossible Foods to produce meals made from artificial meats including meat-free burgers and bolognese.
Qantas creative director of food, Neil Perry, told Executive Traveller that consumers can expect new menu items for upcoming flights.
“We’re doing a lot of menu planning for the future in the next month, and I think in the next six months we’re hoping to launch some things.”
Qantas Working With Established Partners
Fake meats industry leader Impossible Foods has already established partnerships with multiple international airlines including Delta Airlines and Air New Zealand. The company are bringing more inclusive and diverse meals to flights, including their famed Impossible Burger.
As Travel Radar’s Jasmine Adjallah reported, United Airlines have recently announced their own partnership with Impossible Foods to provide more plant-based vegetarian and vegan options to its catering offerings, both in flight and in its selected Polaris lounges in the UK.
Australian company v2food has provided fake meat options for the domestic market in partnership with fast food mastheads Competitive Foods Australia, alongside CSIRO investment fund Main Sequence Ventures. These products can be located on the shelves of supermarkets Coles and Woolworths.
Qantas has been paying closer attention to their menu options as of recent, including a curated Italian cuisine inspired menu. The menu has been created for business class flyers on their new route from Perth to Rome, including buffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and basil; and salumi with bocconcini, semi dried tomatoes, olives and pecorino-crushed peas.
