Major global airline Turkish Airlines has debuted a new sustainability-themed livery on its Airbus A321 in recognition of its first flight running on environmentally friendly and efficient biofuel.
Green in style, green in nature – biofuel-designed take-off
The flight is the first of several European routes run by Turkish Airways using biofuel. The carrier announced that the new green leaf design will feature exclusively on aircraft that have been designed to support the SAF (sustainable aviation fuel).
This particular flight was due to land in Stockholm and was one of the airline’s A321 aircraft.
The Turkish flag carrier also announced plans to use biofuel to serve additional high-capacity destinations throughout Europe, targeting attractive destinations such as Copenhagen, Paris, and London. Interestingly, Heathrow Airport is the largest user of SAF globally.
Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, Professor Ahmet Bolat, shared his enthusiasm and positive vision for Turkish Airlines’ sustainably-driven future:
“As the national flag carrier of our country, our aircraft with its new design is now in the skies to underline the importance of sustainability for us. With the biofuel expression on our aircraft, we wish to emphasize the significance of using sustainable aviation fuel as it is one of the biggest hurdles in the aviation industry’s struggle against carbon emissions. Thus, we are supporting the biofuel manufacturing efforts and aim to increase our flights which use biofuel during their operations.”
Turkish Airlines made environmentally-conscious decisions for this flight, and will likely be doing so for the rest of the flights that sport the leaf livery. Kraft tissues, paper cups, and wooden salt and pepper shakers were available for passengers to use on the flight.
Passengers were served complimentary green tea to further the green image. Considerate decisions in the form of specifically designed pillow covers (a nice touch marketing-wise) and blankets produced with 100% recycled materials were on offer. Any children aboard the green flight must’ve been delighted after receiving wooden toys certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to keep.
Turkish Airlines wasn’t the first airline this year to adopt a new and interesting livery. German charter airline Condor unveiled a colorful ‘bath towel’ livery that makes its aircraft stand out in the skies.
Turkish Airlines is the largest mainline carrier in the world by the number of passenger destinations. It is pleasant to note their efforts in offering a completely environmentally-minded flight experience, from the fuel the aircraft runs on to the amenities on offer in the cabin.
The Istanbul-based carrier will continue its efforts to lower its carbon emissions with new generation aircraft already integrated into its young fleet.
