Mallorca Holidaymakers Should Expect Long Waits

Mallorca have been rumoured to be on the ‘green list’ when international travel reopens in the UK next month, but holidaymakers may face long waits at the airport.

The ban on international travel is set to lift on the 17th May and it seems time has moved quickly  since the UK’s roadmap out of lockdown was first announced. Now, freedom is almost on the horizon, if everything goes according to plan.

The travel industry in the UK has been discussing a traffic light system that will categorise countries on a red, amber and green basis. If a country is labelled green, then it’ll be easier to travel to as a UK citizen. Nevertheless, there are already many countries on the red list, including Ethiopia and Qatar, both of which were added in March of this year.

Mallorca may have the green light, but long waits expected

The Balearic island of Mallorca is set to be on the green list when travel resumes, which could be problematic for those trying to control the flow of people at Palma airport. Travellers flying from the UK to Mallorca are likely to face a long wait at the other end.

The airport have warned that the procedure to get people from the plane, through the building and out the other side may take up to six hours. This is due to the amount of restrictions, documents and paperwork and safety precautions that travellers flying onto the island will have to face. Also, travel is likely to boom once people can fly again, which may cause even further delays.

However, this is likely to be the case for all green lit countries as travellers strive to make up for lost time.
