Lufthansa is looking to expand its service and move to grow its Japan footprint for the Summer 2027 schedule, bringing back Nagoya and adding more Tokyo capacity — a bet that demand to Japan will stay strong well into next year.

Nagoya route returns from Frankfurt
In summer 2027, Lufthansa will expand services to Japan, resuming Nagoya flights as well. This was announced by the airline group on Tuesday.
The airline will resume the Frankfurt-Nagoya service for three days per week on a seasonal basis, starting Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The flight is slated to resume on March 29, 2027.
The flight LH736 will take off from Frankfurt on Monday at 2:10 p.m., landing the following day at 9:35 a.m. local time in Nagoya. The return flight LH737 will leave Nagoya at 11:30 a.m. on the following day, landing in Frankfurt the same day at 6:30 p.m. local time.
The flight will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with its latest long-haul aircraft cabin, called Allegris. The aircraft has 28 seats for the business class, 28 seats for the premium economy and 231 seats for the economy, Lufthansa said in the planned configuration.

Extra Tokyo Narita capacity and broader group expansion
Lufthansa announced that it will add additional services on the Frankfurt-Tokyo Narita route, starting on March 28, 2027, for one flight daily, which was described as seasonal for summer 2027.
The light LH710 will take off from Frankfurt on Monday at 1:45 p.m., landing the following day at 9:30 a.m. local time in Narita. The return flight LH711 will leave Narita on the same day at 11:20 a.m., landing in Frankfurt the same day at 6:40 p.m. local time.
The airline will fly from Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo Haneda Airport every day, and, next summer, service will also exist between both Tokyo’s major international airports, the airline stated. The Tokyo Narita route will similarly be served by Boeing 787-9, equipped with the Allegris cabin, the Lufthansa said.
According to the airline group, the expansion is a result of demand and the Lufthansa Group’s hub airlines — Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways — anticipate offering up to 50 flights each week to four destinations in Japan by the summer of 2027: Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita, Osaka and Nagoya. The group said that SWISS will also have expanded its service, offering up to seven flights per week between Zurich and Tokyo Narita by the summer of 2027.
