April 9, 2025, Cape Town — In light of the expanding African tourism market, WTM 2025 presents five key pointers strategies. The eleventh edition of the World Travel Market 2025 in Cape Town welcomes six new exhibitors: Zambia, the Netherlands, Qatar, Croatia, Sierra Leone, and São Paulo, as well as 13 new buyer countries.

The highlight of the event was visa reformations and the people of Africa.

The Five Key strategies of WTM 2025 to incentivise tourism:

  1. Better connectivity with more direct routes to the parts of the world such as India. There would be direct flights between the routes to Indian cities and Cape Town. Similar initiatives to expand routes to China, as a part of the strategy, are under consideration and due for discussion later this year.
  2. Additionally, the strategy involves investments in a wider array of attractions, such as the city’s cruise industry.
  3. Further, investments would be made to bolster infrastructure-related projects such as water security, independent energy generation, improved public transportation, increased law enforcement, and visa reformations.
  4. Visa reformations bear a special place in the discussion. Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, has shown special interest in visa reformation, saying:

One of the primary obstacles to travel is accessibility. This is why I advocate for visa reform, aiming to simplify the process for travellers considering South Africa, particularly Cape Town.

  5. The leaders also emphasised the important role of tourism in the growth of economy. The strategies revolve around creating more job opportunities for the citizens in South Africa.

At the end of the event, Carol Weaving, Managing Director of RX Africa concluded by saying that the focus would remain on the people of Africa, human resources:
