Earlier this week, a Wizzair Airbus A320 travelling from Kutaisi in Georgia to Warsaw in Poland was instead diverted to Bucharest, where it landed following a call to Kutaisi Airport by a woman who gave ‘very precise details’, a spokesperson said.

Wizz Air flight W6 1576 was conducting a normal flight bwtween Kutaisi to Warsaw when the airline made the decision to divert the aircraft to Bucharest. Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline which operates across Europe, and also serves some destinations in North Africa and the Middle East and in a statement said: ‘The crew acted in accordance with operating procedures, the aircraft landed uneventfully in Bucharest.

Following landing in Bucharest and being parked on a remote stand, ‘All passengers and crew were safely offloaded and the full check of the aircraft and all bags was initiated” amd completed “without any threat”

‘Safety and security remains Wizz Air’s top priority and the airline has zero tolerance for any attempt to jeopardize it. This is now a matter for the police.’ the airline added. The call made to the airport will now be investigated by the police with jeopardising a commercial airline operation being a criminal offence in the UK.
