Wizz Air is the official airline that has partnered with the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, in order to help athletes arrive ready to compete. Debuting in Budapest, Wizz Air have stated it is excited to help bring the “world’s best athletes to [its] home city of Budapest.”

The World Athletics Ultimate Championship
The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is a new, biennial, season-ending track and field event debuting in Budapest from Sept. 11-13, 2026. This event is designed to crown an undisputed champion and it features only top-ranked athletes, Olympic/World Champions, and Diamond League winners. It is in a fast-paced, three-evening format with a record-setting $10 million prize pool. The session schedule was revealed last November, 2025.
Wizz Air play a central role in powering transportation logistics; the partnership was officially signed at Wizz Air’s headquarters in central Budapest. The airline will manage the transportation of nearly 400 world-class athletes from approximately 70 countries to Budapest. Every “Ultimate Champion” crowned at the event will also receive travel vouchers to use with the airline.
World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, said:
“We’re delighted to be announcing Wizz Air as the official airline for the first-ever World Athletics Ultimate Championship.”
Usain Bolt has been named the “Ultimate Legend” ambassador to promote this new 2026 event.

Balázs Fürjes, the co-chair of the organising committee emphasised:

The passionate, sport-loving Hungarian fans have witnessed 30 major international competitions of 25 summer Olympic sports in the last seven years, and we are delighted to host the pioneering Ultimate Championship, welcoming the best of the best athletes in the world.”

As the new 2026 Ultimate Championship is designed to run in years when there are no traditional outdoor world championships, this structure is viewed as a game-changer for the sport.
