Wizz Air’s new routes

The new routes will connect Sibiu to Vienna, Hamburg, Frankfurt-Hahn, Basel, Rome-Fiumicino, and Madrid. Fares will start at €14.99 or 79 RON, according to Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta:

We are proud to hold a leading 55% market share in Romania, Cornerstone market for Wizz Air. All of this will be supported by allocating the second aircraft to the base in Sibiu, advancing towards our ‘WIZZ 500’ strategy”.

Wizz Air’s long-term investment in Romania

Wizz Air, which began operating in Romania in 2006, has increased its investment there and now connects travellers to 72 destinations in 24 countries, with 169 routes operated from 13 airports in the country.

The airline has set up six operating bases in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara, Craiova, and Sibiu during the last eighteen years. It now employs more than 1,500 people.

Alongside the routes, Wizz Air will expand the number of flights to Memmingen (daily), Nuremberg, and Baden-Baden (four times a week).

Local leaders have praised the expansion.

Vlad Vasiu, Vice President of the Sibiu County Council called the expansion:

“an important step towards strengthening regional and international links. This expansion opens up new travel opportunities for the inhabitants of Sibiu County and the entire region, facilitating direct access to destinations around the world.”

Echoing these sentiments, Marius Ioan Gerdea, General Manager of Sibiu International Airport said:

“We are a united and dedicated team, which has worked tenaciously and discreetly to achieve our goals. We remain committed to our mission of connecting people with their favourite destinations, and today is, in our opinion, just the beginning of a promising phase.”

Tickets for the new routes are now on sale on the airline’s website and official app.
