WestJet is expanding its transatlantic service with a new WestJet Halifax to Amsterdam non-stop flight between Canada and Europe, set to launch on May 29, 2025. The new route will operate up to six times weekly, marking the first time WestJet launches has connected Halifax directly to the Netherlands.

WestJet Expands Halifax to Amsterdam Non-Stop Flights
With this new service, WestJet will be adding 97% more transatlantic seat capacity from Nova Scotia than it did last year.The WestJet Halifax to Amsterdam non-stop flight is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and economic opportunities between Canada and Europe.
“WestJet’s new service between Halifax and Amsterdam opens the door for record growth in Nova Scotia through vital investment that strengthens connectivity to Europe, furthering tourism and economic opportunities,” said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet’s Director of Alliances and Airport Affairs.
The flight schedule is as follows:
- Halifax to Amsterdam – 6x weekly, starting May 29, 2025
- Amsterdam to Halifax – 6x weekly, starting May 30, 2025

Direct Flights from Halifax to Europe Expand for Summer 2025
The Halifax-Amsterdam service joins WestJet’s launches growing list of direct transatlantic flights. In 2025, the airline will offer more European destinations from YHZ than ever before, including non-stop service to Paris, London, Dublin, Edinburgh, and Amsterdam. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol officials welcomed the expansion.Patricia Vitalis, Executive Director of Operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
“Halifax is an exciting new destination at Schiphol and will be our sixth in Canada. The deployment of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft aligns with our policy to encourage airlines to operate their quietest and cleanest aircraft.”
Through WestJet’s codeshare agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, travellers will have access to multiple European destinations via Amsterdam. The partnership allows for a single check-in experience, through-checked baggage, and WestJet Rewards benefits for passengers connecting beyond the Netherlands.

Leaders Applaud the New Route
Nova Scotia officials highlighted the economic benefits of the route.Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development , shared:
“Opening new routes between Nova Scotia and international destinations, such as Amsterdam, is an important way of growing tourism and opening our economy to new markets. We look forward to welcoming more visitors and creating new opportunities for Nova Scotia businesses.”
Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore emphasised the local impact:
“Strengthening our direct connections to Europe enhances tourism, creates economic opportunities, and makes it easier for our residents and businesses to connect with the world. This new route will bring more visitors to Halifax, support our local economy, and further position our city as a gateway to Atlantic Canada. We look forward to welcoming travellers from Amsterdam and beyond to experience everything Halifax has to offer.”
Marie Manning, VP of Business Development and Chief Commercial Officer at Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA), noted the historical significance:
