Virgin Australia-Avolon Deal : First of Six Boeing 737-8 Max Delivered

On 21 August 2025, Virgin Australia received the first of six Boeing 737 8 Max aircraft. This aircraft was delivered by Avolon, which has agreed to a sale and leaseback by the airline.

According to aviation finance company Avolon, this aircraft is the 12th Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in the airline’s fleet. This new aircraft is set to support its growth plans. Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon said:

“We have a strong and long-standing relationship with Virgin Australia and are delighted to support their plans with 6 new 737 8 MAX aircraft. The scale of our orderbook and balance sheet gives us the ability to provide our customer airlines with bespoke solutions to support their expansion and fleet transition.” 

In addition to this, Race Strauss, Chief Financial Officer at Virgin Australia, said:

” We value our ongoing partnership with Avolon, and we are pleased to welcome our first Boeing 737 8 MAX with the lessor. We look forward to building on our relationship with Avolon through future deliveries.”

Avolon is a leading global aviation finance company which leases and provides management services to airlines and their investors. It also works with 142 airlines in 60 countries. Moreover, Avolon has also owned and managed over 1,166 aircraft ( as of 30 June 2025).

About the airline

Founded in 2000, Virgin Australia is one of the largest Australian airlines which operates in an extensive domestic network, including short-haul international routes.

In addition to this, the airline offers its customers with loyalty program, Velocity Frequent Flyer. Velocity Frequent Flyer members get a chance to use their Points to redeem flights to over 650 locations around the world. Committed to greater sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.

With its headquarters at South Bank, Queensland, the airline has been an Avolon customer since 2011 and has eight aircraft on lease from the company already.
