Vietnam’s LCC Vietjet Air launches its direct flight from Phu Quoc Island to New Delhi on the 9th of September, connecting the Capital of India to Vietnam’s favourite holiday destination- Phu Quoc Island.
On the evening of 9th September, a new route was established from Phu Quoc directly to New Delhi for the first time. The LCC is the first airline to fly the route from Phu Quoc Island to New Delhi, the capital with a population of more than 18 million.
The flight departed Phu Quoc Island at 6:35 pm ICT(Indochina Time) and arrived in New Delhi at 9:15 pm IST (Indian Standard Time). Flight time from Phu Quoc Airport (PQC) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is around 4 hours 20 mins was operated with the Airbus A320 cruising at flight level 380.
India as the new China
In the past month, Vietjet Air has established over 5 routes connecting Vietnam to various cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, etc. Extensive advertisements were also seen around the country to promote India as Vietnam’s trendiest holiday destination.
Before the pandemic, the airline operated over 15 routes from various cities in China to Vietnam, providing Vietnam with a steady supply of tourists. While most flights are charter flights due to the complicated visa requirements of Chinese citizens, it was considered to be one of the most significant sources of passengers for the airline. As of now, China is currently under strict entry and exit requirements, and Vietnam’s tourism sector requires an alternative tourist source. India being the most populous country in the world is undoubtedly a reliable supply for tourist traffic as an alternative source to Chinese tourists.
As Vietnam enters the low season with the end of the summer holidays, the LCC is shifting its focus on exploring new international routes, including direct flights to Australia towards the end of the year. The airline had also started direct flights from Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam to Mumbai a week before.
Customed Indian Menu
To cater to Hindu passengers, the airline introduced an additional custom menu available for all flights connecting India. 5 additional choices are available for passengers. Tandoori Chicken and vegetarian Masala are the best sellers so far.
Among all Vietnamese airlines, Vietjet Air is the only airline to place heavy emphasis on establishing India as the next holiday destination. The LCC had also resumed flights to connect Vietnam to selected cities in China, despite the strict quarantine measures for entry being intact.
Phu Quoc Island is Vietnam’s Favourite Getaway Destination
Phu Quoc Island located south of the country is the largest island in Vietnam serving as a secondary tourism hub for the South. Famous for its beaches and is the only place in the country where you can see the sunset on the horizon. With various outdoor activities like diving, sunbathing, and snorkeling available for the more adventurous travelers, leisure seekers would not be disappointed to find luxurious resorts located all over the island. It has replaced Nha Trang and Danang as the country’s favourite holiday destination during the pandemic.
Currently, Vietjet Air is the only airline to offer 2 flights per week from New Delhi and Mumbai to Phu Quoc Island. In total, the airline is operating 17 direct flights from the primary cities of Vietnam to India.
