The aviation analytics firm, Cirium, has recently released the flight data for the August Bank Holiday weekend. The August Bank Holiday, also known as the Late Summer Bank Holiday Weekend, from 22 to 25 August, is expected to be the busiest weekend in the UK. Cirium is a global company that provides data and analytics to the aviation industry. In addition to this, it also equips airlines, airports and travel enterprises with intelligence, which helps them to refine and function better.

Data for the August Bank Holiday

According to Cirium, 12,474 flights, equating to 2 million seats, are expected to depart from the UK airports during this weekend. Moreover, there were over 11,747 flights which departed the United Kingdom during the May Bank Holiday.

Meanwhile, 22nd August is expected to be the busiest day during the weekend, with over 3,256 flights scheduled.

Whereas, compared to the 2019 data, the departures this year during the bank holidays were down by 5%. The data also reveals that departures this year were up by 1% compared to the same holiday weekend in 2024.

Heathrow is set to see the highest departures (2679), followed by Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted.

Popular European Destinations this weekend

Greece, Spain and Italy are set to see record-breaking flights with over 2,985,360 seats available on the flights from the UK to Spain.

Meanwhile, flights to Greece have over 1,040,000 seats, alongside Italy with 987,806 seats, making them the most popular European destinations this August.

In addition to this, almost 65,158 flights are set to depart from the UK airports to popular European destinations throughout August.

The data also reveals that the growing appetite for summer holidays has led to a significant increase in the number of flights to Europe from the UK.

Travellers are expected to experience long queues and congestion on the way to the airport and are advised to travel accordingly.
