Airports in the United Kingdom have been witnessing steady traffic growth this year as passenger numbers continue to improve since the pandemic, according to a latest report from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

UK Airports see steady passenger traffic growth

The aviation sector is recovering steadily as passenger numbers at UK Airports continue to grow, as per the UK CAA report. Around 81 million passengers travelled through UK Airports between April and June 2025. In the first half of this year, 141 million passengers passed through UK airports, with the number expected to rise further during a record-breaking summer. Passenger numbers have grown 3% since 2024.

As per the report, airports in the north of England saw a significant rise in terminal passengers. Around 7,50,000 passengers flew through Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and Leeds Bradford airports alone.

Europe was the most preferred destination for fliers, with the most popular destinations being Dublin, Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca and Alicante in Spain.

Punctuality improves across airports

UK Airports are also improving in terms of punctuality, with 75% flights operating on time, an eight percentage point growth from last year. April was the best month in terms of punctuality, as 82% of flights flew on schedule.

Selina Chadha, Group Director for Consumers and Markets at the UK Civil Aviation Authority said:

“Aviation is experiencing strong growth, with record passenger numbers as millions take to the skies this summer. Reliable, on-time flights remain a priority, and it’s encouraging that delays are falling year-on-year.”

Aviation Minister Mike Kane said:

“Our airport expansion plans will make sure the industry continues to benefit from and keep up with growing demand. More passengers travelling through UK airports means increased economic growth and more jobs for people up and down the country, supporting the delivery of our Plan for Change.”

Earlier this year, the UK government proposed an overhaul of the UK Airspace to enable faster flights and fewer flight delays for passengers.

Tim Alderslade, Chief Executive of Airlines UK, said:

“The sector will continue to prioritise passengers and freight customers and looks forward to working with Government to build on this momentum, so we can secure the future of aviation, the jobs it delivers and the world-class connectivity it provides.”
