After nearly a decade, Luxair is reintroducing the assembly of its first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The aircraft is scheduled for delivery to Luxembourg before the end of the year. Post the production at Embraer’s facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil, passenger operations will commence from January 2026.

The Arrival of E195-E2

With six firm orders and options for three additional aircraft, Luxair sets stone for its fleet renewal strategy. The arrival of E195-E2 marks the beginning of a long-term commitment with Embraer and an increased flexible network for Luxair’s customers.

Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair, said:

“The arrival of our first E195-E2 will mark a milestone for Luxair and for Luxembourg. It combines sustainability, efficiency and greater comfort for our passengers, while also introducing our refreshed brand identity – a strong statement about our ambitions for the future.”

The Embraer E195-E2 aircraft arrival also highlights increased passenger comfort, offering a 2/2 seating configuration, which is more spacious and comfortable as compared to the traditional 3/2 configuration. The cabins contain large windows, making it brighter and enjoyable for a relaxed travel experience.

Why reintroduce the Embraer?

Luxair’s current fleet comprises 21 aircraft, including ten Boeing 737 series and 11 De Havilland Canada Dash 8-Q400. The new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft has significant benefits, including:

  • Advanced aerodynamic design, with high-aspect ratio wings and swept tips, results in a remarkable reduction in emissions and fuel consumption.
  • E195-E2, the largest in the E-Jet E2 family, has been specifically designed for high-density routes, maximising both efficiency and returns.
  • It aligns perfectly with the airline’s goals of sustainable growth, offering a 25 % reduction in fuel burn and emissions and cutting the noise pollution by up to 35 %

After the retirement of the ERJ 145 fleet, a nearly decade-long gap, Embraer is again a part of Luxair’s trusted partnerships. What do you think about this fleet renewal strategy? Let us know in the comments below.
