Our 2019 article highlighted the safest airlines based on company Airline Ratings rankings. After a few years of witnessing technological improvements in the aviation industry, we are back with the latest updates for the 2024 list.
Airlines Ratings is an Australian website that annually publishes a list of the safest airlines; we want you to join us as we reveal the results and explore the changes in safety rankings over the years.
Which is the number one of 25 safest airline companies for 2024?
According to the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives (B3A), the number of fatal aircraft-related incidents decreased in 2023, signifying improved air travel safety, which is a positive aspect for the aviation industry for this year. Despite this optimistic factor, we all know that fear and nervousness persist among individuals who are doubtful about flying safety.
Airlineratings, a respected company established in 2013 and globally recognised for its annual rankings, studied 385 airlines to confirm their safety assessments based on specific criteria that include the number of airplane crashes, pilot-related serious incidents, industry-leading safety initiatives, profitability, aircraft age and audits by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
All of the mentioned criteria aim to ensure that airlines comply with aviation industry standards, and we are delighted to share it with you.

Air New Zealand Claims the Title of the World’s Safest Airline!
It is confirmed that Air New Zealand is now considered the safest airline company for the 2024, with Qantas and Virgin Australia following in the ranking. In the previous year, Air New Zealand and Qantas swiped their positions, solidifying them as leaders in the safest world’s airlines ranking.
As stated Geoffrey Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of airlineratings.com “The top twenty-five safest airlines in our ranking are all exceptional in the industry , leading in safety, innovation, and the launching of new aircraft”
Explaining safety margins between these top 25 being extremely small, Geoffrey Thomas detailed the proximity of points between Qantas and Air New Zealand having a minimal difference of 1.5 points.

Mr Thomas also affirms that the fact of Air New Zealand operating in the world’s most challenging weather conditions airports, with the significant navigation challenges contributes of showcase of pilot’s expertise.
Observing the rest of the table it is apparent that the British airline securing a place in the top 25 was British Airways, claiming the 15th position. We are optimistic about the airline’s worldwide recognition as the airline marks an improvement in two positions compared to the previous year when British Airways held the 17th spot.
The world’s safest LOW-COST Airlines
In addition to this ranking, another was assembled, including the safest low-cost airlines in the world, with the compelling results of Australian airline JETSTAR claiming the top position, followed by the British airline EASYJET and Irish carrier RYANAIR assuring the third place.
Mr. Thomas expressed: “These airlines demonstrate an exceptional safety culture, maintaining a low incident rate.”
