The Nordic Network for electric aviation has decided to boost the move towards the electric aviation in the Nordic countries. Addressing  the critical challenges  of climate change and cost of energy the NEA is progressively becoming the pioneer in the aviation industry regarding sustainability. The transport ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden signed a declaration focusing on the development of commercial aviation flights and their environmental impact. Their ultimate goal is to create fossil-free air-travels by 2030. Moreover,  NEA aims  to minimize the carbon footprint and accelerate the procedures of moving to a fossil-free aviation sector. Swedish Infrastracture and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson characteristically said:

“Electric-powered aviation is vital for transforming the transportation sector. Together with other sustainable fuels, electric flight could cut emissions and accelerate the shift towards a fossil-free sector.”

Challenges and solutions

However, this exciting initiative comes along with particular challenges. More particularly, cost is a factor that necessitates innovative and effective planning, in order to fulfill affordable technology. Climate is a crucial issue for electric aviation since flights contributes to the global CO2 emissions. Connectivity is another sector that demands smart solutions since major airports tend to be busy while local ones are underused. Hence, NEA’s vision lies in overcoming these barriers by finding economically viable and sustainable solutions. In general the declaration signed by the Nordic countries provides a promising plan for the expansion of the electric aircraft routes. This development  will undeniably revolutionise the aviation industry setting the bar high for the competitive airlines worldwide.
