Frequent Flyers can donate air miles to three designated charities: APOIAR, Orbis and Sol Sem Fronteiras. The option to donate is available to all members of TAP Air Portugal’s (TAP) Miles & Go Programme. The airline has pledged support to the charities for the next three years (2024-2026.)
Miles Exchanged for Flights
The three charities will each receive 1 million air miles from TAP and a further 1 million from generous TAP customers. The air miles can then be exchanged for flights which will help organisations to deliver vital goods and services.
The charities were chosen from over 100 applications to the ‘Donate Miles’ Programme. ‘Donate Miles’ is part of TAP’s wider ‘Causas com Asas’ (Causes with Wings) initiative. Launched in 2007 it has helped more than 60 social enterprises to date.
Who are the Chosen Charities?
APOIAR was founded in March 1995 and aims to break the cycle of poverty for thousands of people across Africa through development projects promoting nutrition, health, education and training. Since 2012, it has focused most of its efforts on Mozambique, where 35% of the population suffers from food and nutritional insecurity. It has helped approximately 15,000 people since its inception.
Launched in 2007, Orbis promotes human rights, education and equal opportunities in Portuguese-speaking countries such as Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Based in Portugal, the charity works with teams in Africa to implement its groundbreaking work.
Sol Sem Fronteiras is a Lisbon-based NGO that promotes access to education for all young people. Since its launch in 1984, it has supported over 100,000 children. Notable achievements include building and expanding 29 schools, and improving meal and sanitation conditions for over 16,000 students. In addition, it has trained more than 1,800 teachers.
