FlySafair temporarily suspended all flights to and from Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) on Jan. 19. until Feb. 14, following severe flooding across Limpopo, South Africa, that caused extensive damage to critical airport infrastructure.

Support for Affected Passengers
The region, recently declared a national disaster, has seen widespread destruction from heavy rains. At Hoedspruit Airport, the flooding has severely damaged the runway and rendered the airport’s radar system non-operational, creating unsafe conditions for both departures and landings.
FlySafair is proactively reaching out to all passengers affected by the suspension. Customers will have the option change their booking to a later date or an alternative route at no additional cost or request a full refund.
The airline expressed its sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and its deepest sympathies to all those impacted by the floods. The chief marketing officer at FlySafair, Kirby Gordon said:
Our hearts go out to the communities across Limpopo who have been severely affected by these floods. We recognise that suspending our services adds to the disruption people are already facing during an incredibly difficult time. However, the safety of our passengers and crew must always come first. The current conditions at Hoedspruit simply do not allow us to operate safely, and we will not compromise on this.”

Regional Impact
Limpopo’s flooding has not only disrupted air travel but also caused widespread damage to homes, roads, and businesses across the province. Authorities are working tirelessly to provide relief and restore essential services.
