Consumer Trust Drives Top Position

The annual study, Europe’s largest independent survey on sustainability perceptions, measures how brands are viewed by the public rather than their verified environmental performance.

The ranking is based on extensive surveys conducted among Danish and Swedish consumers, focusing on how companies are perceived in terms of sustainability. SAS has consistently secured the top position in recent years.

The airline’s efforts include fleet modernisation, operational efficiency improvements and partnerships aimed at developing alternative aviation fuels. While the study does not assess actual emissions data, it highlights how passengers increasingly factor sustainability into their travel decisions.

SAS operates major routes across Scandinavia and Europe, including key hubs at Copenhagen (CPH) and Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), where sustainability initiatives are a growing focus amid rising scrutiny of the aviation sector.

Industry Faces Energy Challenges

The recognition comes as the aviation industry continues to grapple with energy uncertainty and reliance on conventional jet fuel. Rising fuel costs and geopolitical tensions have exposed vulnerabilities in global energy supply chains.

SAS said it is working with partners across Denmark, Sweden and Norway to support the development of Power-to-X technologies and other renewable fuel pathways. These initiatives aim to reduce long-term dependence on fossil fuels while improving energy resilience.

The airline also continues to prioritise fuel efficiency measures across flight and ground operations, alongside technical upgrades designed to lower overall consumption.
