SalamAir, a low-cost, Oman-based airline, has announced an expansion of its Middle East network, introducing new direct flights between Muscat and Damascus. The new connection forms part of the Omani government’s Oman Vision 2040 project.

SalamAir looking to expand fleet and destinations
SalamAir currently services around 80 flights per day to 38 destinations. Damascus will add to this growing set of locations, accompanied by Port Sudan, Medan, and Vienna. The airline expects these flights to start operating in 2026.
This announcement also follows news that SalamAir is looking to expand its fleet to 25 aircraft by 2028. Currently, the airline has 15 Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, and with new destinations on the horizon, a larger fleet would support SalamAir’s increase in direct flights.

The new destinations tie in with Oman Vision 2040
The new flights to Damascus will run twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays, starting on May 2, 2026. The route is designed to serve both the Syrian community in Oman and enable greater onward access through SalamAir’s network. Steven Allen, the airline’s chief commercial officer, has stated that
“Choosing Damascus to be our next route, and to be the first Omani airline to operate to Syria, reflects our strategic and commercially driven approach to network expansion. This service has been carefully designed to meet clear travel needs between Oman and Syria.”
Additionally, Allen noted that SalamAir’s direct flights to Syria will form part of Oman Vision 2040, the Oman government’s wider project to diversify the nation socially, economically and culturally in the coming decades. In regards to this project, Allen stated that
“the Damascus route supports the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, while remaining aligned with our planning framework to ensure sustainable growth, operational reliability, and value for our customers.”
