The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ANSV) announced that an investigation has been launched for an Air Arabia aircraft that plummeted shortly after taking off from Sicily.
Safety Investigation Launched as Initial Investigation Concludes
On 20 September, an Air Arabia A320 aircraft escaped a deadly serious incident narrowly, with reported data of the aircraft as low as a few hundred feet as the aircraft plummeted shortly after takeoff. This incident happened shortly after the aircraft took off from Catania Airport near Sicily.
The flight was Air Arabia’s flight bound for Jordan, Queen Alia International Airport. According to the Italian Civil Aviation Authorities (ANSV), the flight received a Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) pull-up message shortly after take off as the aircraft was too close to the sea surface.
According to the authorities, the flight continued without any other incidents after the plummet, and there were only 2 pilots and 4 cabin crew on board. However, they are opening a safety investigation for this incident, and it has been classified as a ‘serious incident.’
